On Big Good Dildos, I’m also interested in the people who make the sextoys I review. Their approach, their design choices, and their relationship to the body and to pleasure deserve to be explored just as much as the objects themselves. That’s the whole purpose of this interview series: giving a voice to creators who shape the market differently.
This time, we head to France with Jack O’Toy — an artisan brand launched by a passionate duo during the lockdown. Far from collection-driven or marketing-oriented logic, the project stands for fully handmade production, a free aesthetic, and strong attention to both safety and imagination.
In this exchange, they look back on the beginnings of the project, their way of creating together, the technical choices behind their models, and their desire to offer toys that are safe, varied, and open to every kind of desire.
Handcrafted creation, free forms, and pleasure without injunctions
Based in France, Jack O’Toy is an independent brand founded by a passionate duo in the wake of the first lockdown. The project was born from the desire to sculpt, explore original shapes, and create sextoys by hand, without a commercial plan or imposed aesthetic. Production is artisanal, the tone is direct, and each piece is designed to leave room for imagination.
No locked-in universes, freedom of creation, attention to the body: the approach is simple yet demanding. No spectacular storytelling, no carefully staged marketing — just objects crafted with care, with respect for materials and for the pleasure of those who use them.
An artisan approach, free and attentive
- In-house production and body-safe materials: each toy is sculpted, molded, and cast by hand, using platinum-cured silicone and biocompatible pigments.
- Progressive and intuitive creation: shapes evolve through experimentation, discussions, and customer feedback, without collection logic or fixed schedules.
- An open aesthetic, with no imposed narrative: models may be linked to characters, but they are left to each person’s interpretation.
- A slower rhythm and alternative communication: no reliance on social media; the brand favors direct exchanges, conventions, and Mystery Boosters.
With Jack O’Toy, fantasy sextoys become a playground without rigid codes — where every body can explore at its own pace, with objects designed to last.
The origins of Jack O’Toy
At Jack O’Toy, everything starts with a simple need: to create. For pleasure, out of a desire to experiment, and with the idea of bringing shapes born from their imagination to life. No precise plan, no imposed universe — just an artisan approach born during lockdown and driven by curiosity.
A project born between two people, in a suspended moment
Jack O’Toy began in 2019, driven by the desire to create together, by hand, without waiting for external validation. The lockdown period became an opportunity to give shape to their first ideas in an intimate and experimental setting. The two founders sculpted their first models, made their molds, shared their attempts, and received enthusiastic feedback.
“We wanted to create our own sextoys from our imagination and creativity.” In 2020, Jack O’Toy officially launched, first through a marketplace, before creating their own website to take full control of their distribution.
Creating to leave room for imagination
Jack O’Toy does not seek to impose a universe or a narrative. Each model may be linked to a character of their own creation, but nothing is fixed. “We do not intend to create complex and interconnected universes nor impose a fantasy on our models.” The goal is to offer shapes that spark desire, leave space for interpretation, and adapt to different bodies, practices, and imaginations.
Their approach rests on a simple idea: everyone is free to project what they want onto the object. “Your mind is unique.” This freedom goes hand in hand with a genuine concern for adaptability: “We simply want everyone to be able to explore their sexuality and fantasies safely, adapting our creations as best as possible so they suit as many body types as possible.”
Their philosophy can be summed up as follows: “Helping anyone get the maximum pleasure by stimulating imagination as much as the body.”
Imagining Shapes, Shaping Textures
At Jack O’Toy, models are not born from a specification sheet, but from a desire or an idea that takes shape. A material to explore, a form to test, a detail to push further. The production is artisanal, empirical, and driven by the pleasure of creating — without following a calendar or a trend.
In-House Craftsmanship, Rigorous and Free
All toys are designed, molded, and cast by hand in their workshop. The choice of platinum-cured silicone is obvious, for its biocompatibility, reliability, and the freedom it offers in terms of texture and firmness. Pigments are selected with the same care, ensuring their origin and stability within the material.
This technical mastery allows them to offer detailed pieces in multiple sizes, without compromising on the final result. “We will never sacrifice quality in favor of price. That is not an option.” The goal: toys that are safe, durable, and enjoyable to use.
Ideas in Motion
Inspiration comes from everywhere — a conversation, a story, a visual memory. “Some models come to us in the middle of a discussion or from stories we tell each other.” The brand’s style moves between organic, vegetal, monstrous, or abstract, without trying to settle into a defined universe.
Customer feedback also plays a significant role. It influences adjustments in shapes, variations in sizes, and ideas for future versions. The lineup evolves without a marketing plan, shaped instead by exchanges and shared desires.
And What About Larger Sizes?
Some regular customers ask for even more extreme sizes. Jack O’Toy considers it, but without rushing: producing very large formats requires investment and technical adjustments. “Maybe one day toys reaching one meter in length? Maybe ;)”
For now, the priority lies elsewhere: offering varied, adaptable shapes that are enjoyable to handle — whether you’re just starting out or already exploring further.
Carving Their Own Path, at Their Own Pace
Jack O’Toy is anything but a standardized brand. The way they produce, communicate, and exist within the fantasy landscape is guided more by artisanal balance than strategy. Not heavily present online, highly attentive to what they craft, they move forward seriously, without trying to accelerate at all costs.
A Quiet but Firm Commitment
Everything is done in-house, at their own pace, with a high level of demand. Each step takes time — design, molding, production, communication — and this is fully acknowledged. “Manufacturing this type of product takes an enormous amount of time,” they admit. This choice slows their growth, but allows them to maintain control over quality, finishing, and their relationship with customers.
Rather than releasing products one after another or polishing their image, Jack O’Toy embraces an artisanal rhythm: rigorous, deliberate, and suited to a small team. Far from the model of a high-performance retail brand, they favor careful craftsmanship over aggressive communication.
Creating Without Hitting a Wall of Silence
In France, talking about sextoys remains difficult — even more so when they depart from norms: vegetal shapes, oversized formats, monsters or hybrids. They observe it clearly: “Sex is still a deeply rooted taboo in France.” But things are slowly changing, as customers gain confidence, seek information, and discover new ways to explore pleasure.
Facing frequent censorship on social media, Jack O’Toy turns to other channels: conventions, word of mouth, or their Mystery Boosters — small packs containing miniature versions of their models, designed to let curious users discover shapes, textures, and finishes without committing to a full-size purchase. Nothing flashy, but real, lasting connections that allow them to stay close to their community without yielding to imposed formats.
A Desired but Balanced Regulation
On the regulatory front, Jack O’Toy does not seek to operate in the margins. They are aware that the market lacks clear frameworks and even call for stronger protection for consumers. But not at any cost. “All actors (customers, large groups, small businesses, independent creators) must come together and find a balanced consensus,” they explain.
Their knowledge of materials allows them to go beyond existing standards, but certification costs would represent too heavy a burden for their scale. For them, safety is a matter of expertise and responsibility — not labeling.
Conclusion: Craftsmanship, Imagination, and Asserted Independence
At Jack O’Toy, there is no flashy storytelling or perfectly calibrated catalog. Instead, there is a distinct identity born from experimentation, curiosity, and a simple pleasure: imagining shapes and bringing them to life by hand. An artisan approach, patient and deliberate, that favors rigor over speed.
The brand moves off the beaten path, far from censoring platforms, imposed rhythms, or expected aesthetic codes. It is not the easiest choice — but it is a coherent one. A choice rooted in autonomy and respect for the body, pleasure, and the people who place their trust in them.
This may well be Jack O’Toy’s strength: creating in their own way, without noise, but with a clear and consistent direction.
